Darknet Diaries Guest Interview Notes
Our post production team will do their best to try and make you sound great on the podcast. Here’s a few tips to help things sound the best they can:
Space
- Try to record in a quiet room with no loud appliances running
- Flat bare walls and floors create a lot of echo - if your space is like that, try throwing some soft objects around to break it up
Equipment
- A dedicated, wired microphone is best - headset style or builtin laptop mics typically don’t work well
- In line, “earpod” style mics are a good option if you don’t have a dedicated mic
- Avoid wireless devices, both mics and headsets, they tend to sound bad and run out of battery
Setup
- A Squadcast link will be sent for recording Always wear headphones or earbuds during recording
- Try to keep the mic about 6-8 inches close to you mouth
- Avoid speaking directly into the mic unless you have a pop filter
Backup Recording
- We ask all guests to record a back up during their interview in case of a technical issue
- Place a smart phone on a table or desk in front of you, raised on a book or glass
- Make sure the bottom of the phone is facing you
- Disable Bluetooth and put your phone in Do Not Disturb
- Record the conversation using an audio note or recorder app
- Send the file to Jack/Sean separately after the call
